Exploring the Diagonals & Building into Powerful Movement Patterns!

Instructor: Kristine Chaussard
Level: All Levels

*Equipment Needed :      Your Mat and a yoga block (or a thick book).

Focus :    Today is all about exploring the diagonals or X systems and patterns in our bodies, powerful functional movement patterns but where things can also break down and go wrong. In this session we will find weaknesses, identify faulty movement patterns and begin to strengthen correct alignment and movement in those diagonals. We are looking to unravel the system, find if there is any place we may be reinforcing a bad habit or poor alignment which could be causing undue pressure, stress or strain in the body. Today is especially helpful to any of us who suffer from injuries, back or hip pain, weakness or simply poor posture. “Change happens through movement, and movement heals” – Joseph Pilates.

Class Level :     All levels. THIS IS FOR EVERYONE!

The Course of this Class :   Today is a LOT different from how I usually move with you. It’s much slower, very introspective and we are trying to really pay attention to the nuances in each movement. It’s a great moment to unwind, pull back and analyze our posture and alignment in movement patterns we normally take much quicker and aren’t going to catch the nuances. We want to make sure we aren’t reinforcing any poor patterns, compromised movement, anything that could create strains, stresses or pressures on the body. If we find them, we are going to focus on alleviating them as we start to strengthen into those movement patterns with the right, intentional muscular engagement.

I invite you to listen to your body today as you move with me today. Make this yours and my hope is that it ultimately brings you healing and into better and better posture, alignment and strength in all your movement and activities.

Goals :   Self-exploration in relation to our diagonals and x-systems. Exploring functional patterns of movement. Strengthening into where we find weaknesses. Intentional, mindful movement. Building powerful movement patterns.
