How To: The Snake and Twist

Focus :

The snake and twist focuses predominantly on the core, shoulders and upper back, and some hip flexors and adductors.

Equipment Needed :     

Reformer.

Exercise Level Rating :     

This exercise is considered an intermediate level exercise. But this tutorial is FOR EVERYONE! 😉

The Course of this Class :    

The snake and twist is a set of two very challenging exercises which are essentially the combination of a fancy plank and pike with a twist. So, one of your most important things to remember about this tutorial is that if you want to strengthen yourself into getting up into these exercises, then practice religiously your simple planks and pikes. This will prepare you for performing snake and twist. We will go over the body positioning and mechanics of these two as there are definitely some particulars about them. We will talk about the importance of a spinal undulation and articulation throughout your movement. We will give you hints and tips so you can build your strength within these exercises and also know that you are performing them properly. Done correctly and often enough, they are lots of fun and very strength confirming!

Pilates depends on certain technical foundations, understanding these better will set you up for success in your practice; protect you from injuring yourself; as well as teach you the best alignment your body can achieve! Plus, practicing with the right form, you’ll get A TON more out of the exercise, your level will increase quickly if you stick to it, and so will your results!
