Day 30: Stretches for Flexibility in Legs, Chest and Shoulders

Focus :   

Stretches specifically for flexibility in legs, hamstrings, calves and glutes after a long week with lots of leg work. We’ll also be stretching out the pecs (chest muscles), shoulders, and thoracic spine. You made it! This is our 30th day! Enjoy this day to stretch out sore muscles, lengthen everything and help your body rest and recover from the week behind you.

You’ll feel relaxed and stretched out, ready to enjoy whatever you have planned for your weekend after this beach stretch session.

Equipment Needed :     

Your mat, a soft ball (small – medium size), and the magic circle (you can substitute if needed with a resistance band).

Class Level :     

ALL levels. For everyone!

The Course of this Class :   

We’ll start with stretches for flexibility in legs, working specifically the backs of the legs using our breath and that ebb and flow active stretch movement pattern to ease the tissues into lengthening. Then, we’ll use the circle to help us open the chest. Next, as we have done before with the soft ball behind the shoulder blades we’ll use gravity to help us stretch the pecs additionally finding more extension in the thoracic spine. We continue along this line with more side lying and kneeling thoracic mobilizing stretches while also stretching out the upper back. We’ll finish standing with another chest opener and spinal stretch. Breath deeply and focus on your body throughout this session, where you feel you need the stretch the most. Don’t hesitate to sit into that. Enjoy the waves. Hopefully at the end of the day you’ll feel a bit more flexible and open than when you started class.

Creating flexibility, more space and length in the backs of legs, chest, shoulders and thoracic spine. Releasing tensions, stretching out and resting sore muscles. Help the body recover quicker. Keep tissues long and elastic. Improve oxygen delivery to tissues.
